So, for over a month I had been planning a surprise party for Jason's 30th birthday. It got a bit sketchy at the end when he started wondering what we were going to do for his day and he didn't think what I had told him (a simple dinner for him and me on his birthday and then something bigger with friends later this month) was going to work. But we made it to his birthday and he had no clue! He almost missed the party, getting called out to a huge job around 3 that afternoon. We may have arrived late, but we got there and he loved it.
A lot of special people worked out their schedules to be able to make it there for him. All of his family came, during rush hour, all the way from the WEST side (and that's an understatement). Most of my family had to work, but my dad was there leading the show. He treated everyone to appetizers, picked up the cake, buttered up the waitress and ended up paying for Jason and my food! (I thought the entire night he was great and a little Papa-esque.) A lot of the coworkers got snagged at the same job so they couldn't make it but one friend from work was there. And a few were out of town, so they sent happy wishes. We also had some couples from the ward there celebrating too.
I also have to send huge kudos to TX Roadhouse on Power and Ray that hosted the event for us. Wow! They were awesome! They did anything any of us wanted. They provided plates and forks for the cake. They kept the beverages coming and the good food too! I definitely have to send them a happy thank you note. We were so pleased!
I'm so happy with how it went, but I will definitely wait a while, for my health, before hosting another one. Secrets can kill a person, I swear. I think it took about five years off my life. But he loved it and that made it all worth it. (I just read in a magazine that men have a five year shorter life span anyway, so now we should get to go at the same time.)
