It was a lot easier to scrapbook when I could just put Johnny on the bed while I worked. He didn't move much, so as long as I gave him a toy or put him on the play mat, I could get a few minutes of work in. Well, as he's gotten more mobile, the scrapbook room has become more and more "off limits." But, that hasn't stopped him from wanting to get in. He has this sixth sense and knows when the door isn't fully shut and will crawl over there and try to push his way in. Usually Daddy or I will be right behind him getting him out (especially after an incident involving the trash in the master bathroom and us taking too long to follow after him). Even when I carry him in there to turn the light off and shut the door, he will stretch and wiggle to try to be let loose in there.
Well, in the last few weeks, I've started to let him in there while I'm working. I've put out a few things he can play with near the door and usually he'll get bored with those before long and scoot his way on to bigger and better things in some other part of the house. For example, my ribbon holder now has ribbon all over the floor, thanks to Johnny.
This morning, Johnny was crawling around and I was in the kitchen taking care of something. I could hear him getting into the scrapbook room, but wasn't too worried. It is quite the mess right now and I knew everything near the door he was fine to play with. So, when I went to find him a few minutes later (no more than 3 minutes, I swear!), he was under the scrapbook table across the room digging through my project bags. Meaning, he had somehow scaled the piles of bags and papers and gift bags and shopping bags to get around the desk chair to end up under the table. He was happy as a clam, he had reached the final frontier. And I knew there was no way by the time I got to my camera and came back that he'd still be there. But he was! That's how happy he was going through my stuff- that little stinker!
| Do you see how cozy he appears? Legs crossed, chillin with his stickers! |
Luckily, it looks like minimal damage occurred. :) Maybe now that he's been there, done that, he might move on to other spaces to explore. Wishful thinking, huh?
