Love List 5: The Five Things I Love about Living in AZ

My dad loves to say "And that's why we live in Arizona." He's actually pretty proud of himself for living her and not dealing with all that other stuff the other climates have to do. As I have gotten older, and lived in another state, I've really come to agree with him for a few reasons.

1. The predictable weather- I love things that are predictable, things I can control. In AZ, it's hot for about 6 months and then warm for the other 6. There usually isn't anything unseasonable unless it's unseasonably hot and that usually means 10 degrees difference, so you don't really have to change your clothes. In CA, you couldn't plan for anything. Rain, Wind, Sun, Rain, Drizzles, Sun, every day was different! The seasons didn't end, they all blended together. It drove me crazy! Usually I never dressed right but didn't have time to go back and change so I just dealt with it and was cold or hot. In AZ, you pretty much get sun all day long 350 days a year, and the other 15 days you see it for at least an hour or so.

2. The winter- I hate being cold. Normally, the coldest we see during the day is 50 for two days. But we tend to average around high 60s. You don't even need long sleeves for that! [this is also the time my dad shares his opinion the most]

3. Sunsets- Another thing I didn't appreciate until leaving AZ. You can't even see the sunset in the Bay area. In this flat desert landscape, you always get a great view. The picture above was taken the day JJ was born by a friend. Beautiful!

4. Wearing flip flops about 9 months a year- (See #2) Jason even wears them year round, but I tend to like to wear my closed toed shoes just for a change of pace.

5. Not needing a winter wardrobe- Winter clothes are a lot more pricey than summer clothes. I don't even allow myself to buy sweaters anymore since you're lucky if you get to wear them once a year. Whereas capris you can wear for about 10 months. Short sleeved shirts, year round. Pants, year round if you're crazy, but I usually wear them just for 3-4 months.
