So this week, I decided to stop fighting with him, and let Johnny switch his schedule to one afternoon nap. It was a pretty big deal for me. I can't really pinpoint why, but still, it's bugging me! But it wasn't until last night when I was running through what I had to get done today before going out of town tomorrow that I really started to freak out. How was I going to take a shower if he never took a nap in the morning? Here's the dilemma, we had to be somewhere at 10, and I needed to wash my hair because of the schedule for the conference it was just easier to have it washed today. And I had no desire to get up at 6:30 to take one before he was up.
Well, I toyed with taking one during his afternoon nap, but after cleaning the bathroom, I just had to take a shower. I thought since he'd played in his room without me the entire time I cleaned the bathroom, I could probably hop in the shower, be fast and get out before he was none the wiser.
So, I rushed in and turned the shower on. That's when he started heading towards my bathroom too. I brushed my hair quickly and hopped in the shower, thinking to myself, "Dang, I didn't clean off Jason's nightstand first. Oh well." (Johnny has been obsessed with Jason's nightstand lately and whatever's on it, he'll find and move. The main thing that needs to be moved is usually Jason's glasses.) And, just as I hop pedin, I saw Johnny's head pop around the corner. "Now, I really need to be fast."
I had about five minutes of privacy before, all of a sudden, he pulled back the shower curtain and started to giggle with his arms outstretched. I managed to get him to leave the curtain alone and then start to play around in the bathroom. Once I turned off the shower to shave my legs, there he was again! But this time he had Jason's glasses in his hands. He quickly drops those in the shower and then kept trying to get in.
Then, I was reallyy moving fast. I finished my business, and while drying off, he crawled, fell, is more like it, into the shower behind me. Now he was crying and soaking wet.
I think next time, he'll just take a bath at my feet while I shower. I might have more privacy that way.

Haha, this is completely normal in our house ;) Some might think it's weird, but all my kids have showered with me for the first couple years. It's just easier that way. They are completely occupied with a cup and a couple inches of water they forget you are even there.
Haha! Oh this is funny!! Joys of being a mom, not looking forward to no naps :(
Oh My. Children are great. I have given up being able to shower by myself, I usually always have company.
Cute story!
I love it. It's a rare occasion in this house to get a shower by myself. It's hard going from two naps to one. Then when you finally get used to it and before you know it you're then going from one nap to no nap. Not a good day!
Haha! Find a video that will keep him occupied! That's what I did with my Jonathan when he was little and gave up his morning nap (at about 9 months old...) He was really good about watching Sesame Street and that left me enough time to shower before he got bored. Baby Einstein is great for that too. Any of the PBS shows will work too if that's what you've got. TV is magic that way. I'd never recommend using it as a long-term or regular babysitter, but it's perfect for mom to take a 30 minute shower. The rule at our house is no TV unless mommy is in the shower (or when Mommy is pregnant and needs an afternoon nap). We are mostly pretty good about it and it works to keep them occupied cuz there is NO WAY I'm getting up at 5:30 to get a shower before they all start waking up!
