The search for the orange tree

I've always wanted to plant an orange tree, but we never have. Here's why it's a great idea- Jason loves oranges, I love oranges, so why not have an unlimited supply coming from our very own tree!?!?

Well, in our ward newsletter this month, they had a little blurb about how this is the month to plant citrus trees, so I turned to Jason and I said, "Honey, we have to plant an orange tree." And he said, "sure, whatever." (Isn't it great to be married to someone supportive?) So today we went to 2 different Costcos (who knew they sold orange trees, I know I didn't) on the worst day of the week. The only orange trees they had were blood orange or tangelos- lame. So then we went to Home Depot and they had none! (however, they had a nice fig tree available...) The HD guy said they should be in in the next few weeks, so to keep checking back. Maybe we'll have to wait until 2010, but at least we know when to start.

Of course, while we were at HD we saw all sorts of other things I couldn't wait to plant. (Even though I know I don't have my mother's gift of helping anything grow- I tend to end up killing things.) Well, we settled on some more lantanas- this time they're red! They're just about the only colorful plant that blooms year round in Arizona and doesn't require much water. We already have some purple ones, of the 5 we planted last spring, only 4 made it through, so we added the red ones to them today (actually just Jason did- I had school work to do), and we hope for the best. Here's what it looks like now. Wish us luck to keeping something alive.

Hey Katie! Thanks for sharing your blog! It's so much fun to see what you've been up to. I'm going to have to be much better about keeping mine updated.;)

I am sorry you didn't find a tree at Costco. Paul Stetka told us about them this year and we were able to snag 2 plum, 1 apple, 1 almond, an apricot, another peach and a nectarine. We have finally finished the orchard I have always wanted. BTW, did you try Walmart for the orange tree? I have seen them there too.

Oranges are so yummy! Plus, Tater will have some nice shade eventually.

Good luck on the Orange tree search. When in doubt, order online. Really, we bought a lemon tree like that and it was fabulous. Also, love your title! :)
