HELP: Seeking some sleeping advice

Okay, I need some pointers from my friends who are moms with some experience under their belts.  What do you recommend we do to help him sleep in his crib for longer than 10 minutes?  He sleeps great when he's being held, but when he gets moved to his bed, especially during the day, he doesn't last too long...

Basically I'll take any advice to help him sleep on his own either during the day or night time.  Thanks in advance!

Keep him swaddled (I like the Woombie) when you lay him on his back. Babies do cry. He has gotten used to your heartbeat which he hears when you hold him. Your heartbeat is what he is missing. This is a comfort to him because he is used to it. I suggest the Homedics sound machine which has about 6 baby comforting sounds, including a heart beat. Wow, I wish they had this stuff when I was having babies. I used to walk around with my baby atached to me. I learned how to do everything one handed!

I agree with the sound machine. It works wonders. If he likes being swaddles, absolutely swaddle him. We have the first years brand. It keeps Benjamin asleep even when his big brothers are screaming (literally). Then you just need consistency. When he wakes up after 10 minutes, go in, pick him up, re-swaddle him and rock him back to sleep and put him down again. Keep doing it until he sleeps for at least an hour. You'll have a couple of miserable days (and nights - you have to do it at night too or it won't work) where all you do is rock him to sleep. But he'll learn and eventually sleep longer in his crib.

It seems like at first babies sleep better in a swing or bouncy chair, but I'd start working the baby into sleeping in our cradle during the day. I think it's their immature digestion or something. I'd let him cry a little to see if he'd stay. It will work out. It just takes time. I never have used a sound machine.
